Go to a Poetry Reading and Get Lost in the Consonance
Posted on 07/19/2010
It’s easy to get tired of your normal weekend routine. Try something new by hearing something new. Going to a poetry reading can be a fun experience.
There’s a good chance that you had to write some poetry in some shape or form going through school. If that’s the case, you know how hard it is. Support your local poets by snapping along with their prose.
Finding local poetry readings doesn’t have to be difficult. Your local coffee shops may be your best bet, so ask around for open mic nights.
You may not understand some of the poetry you hear. Don’t worry. You’re not the only one. There are many different types of poetry; many complicated forms as well as simple forms. Open your ears, sip on your drink, and you’ll be just fine.
Poetry readings can be a great date. Grab your significant other before heading out the door.
Are you a closet poet? Put some of your favorite pieces together and give them a shot. The audience is bound to be kind and responsive. It’s not very likely that you’ll get booed off stage.
