Sing Your Heart Out

Music has become a prominent part of our everyday lives—from the radio on the way to work to the music playing overhead in shopping centers. When our favorite songs come on it doesn’t matter if we’re a great singer or tone deaf, we want to sing along. So what’s stopping us? It’s time to cut loose. Karaoke is a great after dinner activity that can help you gain confidence that you can apply anywhere. Follow these ideas and you’re sure to have a blast belting out your favorite tunes.

Moral Support
Maybe you’ve been avoiding karaoke nights because you couldn’t carry a tune if you had a wheelbarrow. The load is always lighter with a little help from your friends. If you’re a first-timer, there’s no shame in sitting back and enjoying others sing popular songs sweetly out of tune. But after awhile it’s time to jump in the action, and a group lending moral support is the perfect opportunity for you to perform your favorite song.

Choose Wisely
If you choose your song carefully you will end up providing an enjoyable experience for others, regardless of your musical abilities. Try to pick a song that you know is a classic or popular. Sure, “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey may be overdone, but it’s sure to have everyone tapping along and singing with you. That will take most of the attention off of you. If you pick a little-known song, all eyes will be focused on you because your audience won’t know the lyrics.

Leave Your Insecurities Behind
Karaoke isn’t a contest to see who can be the best. It’s simply a fun atmosphere where everyone can participate and have a good time. Don’t worry about what others think of you. Besides your friends, you will probably never see most of the people in the room ever again. After you’ve done it, and you realize nobody booed you off the stage, you’ll feel satisfied with the confidence that came along with your performance.
